About us

Gown and Altar is a small, passionate bridal brand based in Mount Maunganui. We are highly regarded for our design innovation, high quality wedding dresses and customer service by brides locally, within NZ and internationally. Our team design and make quality bridal gowns and separates out of our Mount Maunganui studio and off-shore. We have a custom and made to measure service for local brides and an online ready to wear store. We are small team and have a fun, relaxed work environment. 


Current Roles available :

 

-DESIGN + WORKROOM ASSISTANT-

A valued member of the team is moving overseas so we are looking for an all rounder that is passionate about fashion design and garment production.

Candidate qualifications & experience

  • Confident using an industrial sewing machine

  • Basic-intermediate understanding of garment construction, fabric types and pattern making

  • Fashion design degree and/or 2-3 years apparel industry experience

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Patience and a good eye for detail

Tasks & responsibilities

  • Simple pattern alterations

  • Cutting

  • Keeping record of yields and main fabric stocks

  • Sewing calicos, samples and production of simple styles

  • Checking, pressing, steaming and labelling finished gowns

  • Hand finishing and simple garment alterations

  • Cutting and sewing calicos/fitting samples

  • Checking and maintaining shop samples

Offshore samples and production

  • Checking, pressing, steaming and labelling new samples/ customer orders

  • Cleaning and altering if necessary

  • Hand finishing

Design

  • Assist with the development of new ideas

  • Sewing toiles and new samples

  • Assist with collection shoots and collaborations

Customer service

  • Serving customers during veil appointments

  • Bridal Consultations and taking measurements (training will be given)

  • Replying to customer email enquiries

We are happy to hear from graduates as training will be given to the right person. Hours are negotiable between 30-40 hours a week

-CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE + SOCIAL MEDIA MARKETING -

We are looking to fill a new role to support our current team with in-house sales and social media marketing. A passion for styling and fashion is a must, previous bridal experience is not required however high end or luxury retail is preferred.

This role is full time however we will consider reduced/flexible hours for the right person.

Candidate qualifications & experience :

• Minimum 2 years sales experience in fashion retail

• Proven experience in social media management, and content creation specifically within fashion

• Passionate and loves everything bridal, fashion and styling

• Dedication to deliver the highest level of customer service with warmth and professionalism

• Able to work 2-3 Saturdays per month

• The ability to juggle multiple projects, with great attention to detail

• Excellent communication skills, creativity, and innovative thinking

• Proficiency in social media tools, with a passion for staying updated on the latest developments

• A team player that is willing to help out within other areas of the businesses day to day tasks when needed

Your key responsibilities will include:

Customer Experience:

Provide one on one styling consultation with brides to be in house

Taking measurements

Online communication with brides

Assist in quality assurance

Packing and shipping online orders

Managing our try at home sample service

Digital Marketing :

Develop and implement organic and paid ad social media strategy for Gown and Altar

Create image and video content for social media and digital marketing

Plan photoshoots in collaboration with the Design team and manage asset creation following

Procure and manage content and imagery from Gown and Altar customers

Manage sample lending for collaborations

Assist with product copywriting, events, EDMs and e-commerce edits
