BEHIND THE DESIGN…

Gown & Altar was created with the vision of providing brides a laid-back version of bridalwear, with a focus on modern designs for the trend-conscious woman.

Our collection is thoughtfully designed to encompass our effortless elegance aesthetic and to provide brides to be with piece that is comfortable and beautiful for the day that will be cherished for years ahead.

Since 2017, we’ve established Gown & Altar as a highly regarded New Zealand bridal brand, earning consistent five-star reviews. Brides across the country and globally seek our distinctive designs, drawn to our unique approach.

Meet the team

ISABEL – Founder

Isabel’s passion for design began in childhood, crafting fashion for her dolls. which lead into a design degree and a keen hobby of creating a new dress to wear every weekend!

After graduation, she honed her skills as production manager at the iconic New Zealand fashion brand Ruby. Following that, she spent seven years in London, excelling in design and pattern-making for major brands.

Recognizing a need for modern, non-traditional bridalwear, Isabel began designing wedding dresses for friends. Gown & Altar was officially launched shortly after her return to New Zealand in 2017.

Vintage Mini Transformation

The 90’s. A decade of iconic fashion, from slip dresses to chunky sneakers. And let’s not forget the wedding dresses: think voluminous satin, dramatic sleeves, and maybe just a touch (or a lot!) of lace. While these gowns hold sentimental value, their silhouettes might feel a tad too retro for the modern bride.
